Helvetica now is not helvetica update#

вЂњAllowing a modern audience to see Helvetica for the first time,вЂќ feels like a total non sequitur. Like they looked back on what they made and couldn't see a compelling reason for its existence. I feel like Monotype usually does an incredible job selling their new fonts, but their writeup for Helvetica Now feels unusually hollow and generic. I'm interested in a 'the last Helvetica you'll ever need,' but Now's lack of additional widths means it doesn't really fit that bill, either. The micro variant is alright, but even with all the ink traps it still doesn't strike me as a particularly good choice for text of its intended size. The apertures and counters in the text variant are significantly tighter than those of both Helvetica eText and the text variant of Neue Haas Grotesk.
